Individual throttle bodies (ITB) for Lada(VAZ) classic models (2101 – 2107)
The system comprise three main components, the intake manifold, the twin throttle bodies and the velocity stacks. More about the velocity stacks can be found here, the rest will be described here.
The intake manifold was modeled after original drawings found in the book “Auto rally” by Edvard Singurindi(Э. Г. Сингуринди Авторалли).
It is designed to work with a stock Lada engine. The port size on the head size is 32mm and the throttle body diameter is 40mm. The manifold gives very good and natural path for the air charge passing through it. The transition form 40mm to 32mm is very gentle and it corresponds to the head port transition. The overall length and injector position are chosen to suit the power band of the standard engine. Having inlet track that is gradually decreasing it cross section along it’s length is very beneficial in keeping the speed of the incoming charge up. You can’t get this with what is available on the market.
The twin throttle body.
It is straight type, not tapered. It uses DCOE flanges on both side, for the manifold side, so it can fit on other manifolds without modification and on the trumpet’s side, so everything available on the market can be fitted. The shaft rides on sealed bearing on each end. Throttle position sensors(TPS) of various manufacturers can be fitted with or without adapter flanges. Each cylinder has a circuit for balancing and a main screw for setting the idle speed.
